How often have you thought about what frame of mind you are in while you are doing something? Have you ever thought about how your frame of mind might effect how you approach that activity? I’m willing to bet your students mostly give little thought to this as well. Let’s see if we can change that.
Set up a Choice activity in your course. Allow the choice to be updated and set Publish results to “Do not publish results to students”. This way they can update their current frame of mind yet can only see their own frame of mind.
For the choices, you can come up with your own, but here is a list to get you started:
To make things easier you can also get the Choice Quick block which allows you to show a choice as a block in your course. This way, students can see this as soon as they enter the course on Moodle.
Now you want to encourage your students to think about what frame of mind they are in and answer this activity accordingly at the beginning of classes.
This has two benefits:
- It gets the students to think about what frame of mind they are in
- It allows you to get an idea of how the class is feeling, you may want to adjust your teaching style accordingly
