Refine or rebuild

You have a problem and it needs solving.  You have a current solution but it isn’t quite there.  You think that to refine the existing solution isn’t going to cut it.  A more elegant solution could be found by cutting your losses and starting over,  to rebuild from scratch.  Your boss however doesn’t want to do that as it will cost too much and potentially take a lot longer.  Let’s look at this from both sides of the argument. The twist is that we are going to explore it in a collaborative manner.  Each comment has to be the opposite of the previous one in that it should alternate between being for refinement or for rebuilding.  I challenge every visitor to add their bit to the list. In exploring a problem we should always look at and appreciate both sides of the argument.

    I’ll get the ball rolling.

A reason to refine the solution is that you already have a degree of experience and knowledge in it to work off.
