Moodle Activity – Brainstorming

Students attend school to learn.  But what is it that they are actually there to learn?  Is it the class material?  Or is it something else.  I believe that the main aim of school is not to learn the material but to learn how to learn and to learn how to organise (to organise yourself,  to organise yourself,  to organise your life,  to organise you life).  You go to school to learn how to think. This is the fundamental skill that is going to determine how successful you are in your life.

First Brainstorming Session

Last Thursday we held the first Sydney Teachers Brainstorming Group.  The topic was how we could maximise educational potential and minimise distractions in the use of laptops in the classroom.  We utilised the Six Thinking Hats method.  It was quite a success and we all learnt quite a bit.  The following is my thoughts and opinions on the night. Stumbling around the Interweb pays off.

I like to spend a lot of time stumbling around the internet.  It is not uncommon for people to associate this activity with slacking off or time wasting.  I however see it as a great source of inspiration and new ideas. It is an important ingredient in leaving average behind and setting great in your sights.  I think you need a certain knack or approach however to be successful at it.
